The Stories Behind the Pieces: What Our Sourcing Trips Mean to Arven House

Some of the most meaningful parts of building Arven House don’t happen in a showroom or behind a desk. They happen on the road in early mornings, long days, and miles spent searching for pieces that feel special enough to bring into someone’s home.

Our sourcing trips are where the heart of Arven House really lives.

We travel to find furniture and objects that carry a sense of craftsmanship, history, and character. Sometimes it’s a quiet warehouse tucked behind an old brick building. Other times it’s a sprawling antique market, a small maker’s studio, or a conversation with someone who has spent decades collecting beautiful things.

There’s rarely a perfect plan. And that’s part of the magic.

The Hunt

Sourcing trips often start with a rough idea of what we’re looking for. Maybe it's a dining table with incredible grain, a pair of antique lounge chairs, or architectural pieces that could anchor a room. But the best finds are usually the ones we didn’t expect. A weathered oak cabinet that has clearly lived a long life. A set of hand-thrown ceramic lamps that feel sculptural and warm. A vintage bench whose wear tells the story of decades of use. These pieces stand out immediately. They feel honest, grounded, and real.

When we find something like that, we know it belongs in the Arven House catalogue.

Meeting the Makers and Collectors

One of the most rewarding parts of these trips is the people.

Many of the pieces we source come from individuals who care deeply about craftsmanship and preservation. Some are lifelong collectors. Others are makers who still build furniture the traditional way; patiently, carefully, and with an incredible attention to detail. Those conversations matter. They give us insight into where a piece came from, how it was made, and why it has lasted as long as it has. That story travels with the piece when it eventually finds its place in a home.

Why We Do It

In an age where most furniture is mass-produced and quickly replaced, we believe homes deserve better. Sourcing pieces in person allows us to choose furniture with real craftsmanship, find unique items that can’t be replicated, and bring character and authenticity into the spaces we design. It also ensures that every piece we bring into an Arven House project feels intentional.

Nothing is selected just to fill a room.

Bringing the Finds Home

The final step of every sourcing trip is imagining where these pieces will live next. A table might become the center of a family’s kitchen. An antique cabinet might anchor a quiet reading room. A sculptural chair might become the piece everyone asks about when they visit.

That’s the part we love most; seeing something we discovered on the road become part of someone’s daily life.

More Than Furniture

At Arven House, we’ve always believed that great homes are built slowly and thoughtfully.

Our sourcing trips remind us why we started this in the first place: to find beautiful, well-made pieces and place them in homes where they’ll be appreciated for years to come.

Because the best spaces aren’t just designed.

They’re collected, discovered, and lived in.
